WEDDING SUITS GUIDE
Selecting the right wedding suit can feel like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We've put together this quick guide to help simplify the start-to-finish journey of commissioning your wedding day attire, easing you into your initial consultation.
STYLE & INDIVIDUALITY
Wedding suits are the ultimate in individual, personal style. Whether you relish the limelight with plans for a lavish affair, prefer quiet, understated simplicity or hold fast with traditional attire, this quick fire guide should help demystify the options to achieve everything you want on this biggest of days.
TWO & THREE PIECE SUITS
The most popular option for weddings, these are your regular everyday suits. Commonly referred to as ‘lounge suits’, these are the suits that are usually worn for business, elevated on your wedding day to your individual needs and with your personalised twists.
Incredibly versatile, these suits can be crafted in a wide array of fabric designs and weights, to work in almost every type of climate and environment. These are also the suits that can most often be worn again, for special events or as separates in more relaxed settings.
The addition of a waistcoat, for the three piece, gives added versatility for a smarter look during the more formal aspects of the wedding ceremony, to the more relaxed festivities of an evening event, where your jacket, and or waistcoat, can easily be retired for ease of that all important dance floor action.
DINNER SUITS
Second in the wedding suit popularity stakes, the dinner suit - or tuxedo, as it is known across the pond - has become a lot more prevalent as a wedding suit choice over recent years. A more formal choice than the two and three piece ‘lounge suit’, this is still a versatile option for future wear to events requiring this particular dress code.
The black wool fabric of the jacket can be crafted in various weights and is traditionally set off with a contrasting silk lapel, to match a contrast silk stripe of fabric to the outer leg of the trousers. This option is the ultimate statement in stylish elegance and simplicity.
It is worth noting, however, that other colours and fabrics can be used to create more impact with jackets made up in rich contrasting colours and fabric, such as midnight blue, dark green and deep burgundy velvets. With our huge array of cloths, we can explore all of these options with you at your consultation.
MORNING SUITS & WHITE TIE
Last, but by no means least, we have the more traditional options of morning suits and white tie.
The morning suit is sometimes referred to as morning dress. This ensemble is made up from a tail coat, in either a plain black or plain dark grey fabric, worn most often with striped trousers and a contrasting coloured waistcoat. This type of attire is often worn at Royal weddings and is notable for being the dress code at big horse racing events.
We also offer white tie, often considered the most formal dress code of all. Consisting of a black tailcoat and trousers these are paired with a white waistcoat and wing collared dress shirt, with the addition of a white bow tie. Dress studs and cufflinks are a must for your shirt, along with a pair of patent dress shoes and black socks, all of which we can help source to complete this ultra elegant ensemble.
SHIRTS
A bespoke shirt is a must to wear with any of the wedding suit styles listed above. There is nothing worse than areas of bunched up fabric, from the ill-fit of an off-the-peg shirt, crumpling up under your bespoke jacket. Not only will this be uncomfortable, but will be a sorry sight whenever you want to take your jacket off.
Whether a simple cut-away collar, with plenty of potential wear in the future, or a specific wing collar dinner shirt, with a bib front and stud fastenings, to elevate your dinner suit, this is an essential investment with a hefty return.
WEDDING SUITS TO BE WORN AGAIN
For some, a wedding suit is a one event only wear. For most though it is a suit to be worn again, on special occasions and beyond. Inspiring a relaxed confidence, wearing bespoke is a feeling like no other.
As an introduction to the world of bespoke for many, the wedding suit often ignites a passion for bespoke clothing which is difficult to shake! The feeling of wearing a bespoke item of clothing, tailored in a cloth and style of your personal choice, crafted uniquely to fit you, is like no other.
So, once you've invested in any bespoke garment, it's important to make sure it reaches its full potential. All bespoke pieces are crafted to last a lifetime, but without proper care, this longevity can be compromised. Thankfully, by following a few simple steps, you can maintain the distinctive shape and appearance of your garments for years to come.
STORE
Be sure to allow enough space in your wardrobe for your bespoke garments; overcrowding can cause them to become crushed and creased. High-quality wooden hangers with rounded ends and a subtle forward curve are ideal for preserving the shape of your jackets. For trousers, choose a hanger with a textured crossbar to prevent slipping and ensure they hang properly.
ROTATE
One of the best ways to extend the life of your garments is to avoid wearing them too frequently. Ideally, allow your clothes time to rest and air out between wears. Rotating with other pieces will help maintain their durability and longevity.
BRUSH
We recommend brushing your garment after each wear. This helps redistribute the natural oils in the fibres, creating a protective layer that repels dust and stains. Regular brushing also removes any dirt, dust, or food particles that may have clung to the fabric. Whenever possible, use a high-quality brush with natural bristles, as they are gentler on the garment than synthetic bristles, causing less wear and tear.
DRY CLEAN
Limit dry cleaning to once a year, as frequent cleaning can strip the protective oils from the fabric, shortening its lifespan. If more regular cleaning is needed, request that an experienced dry cleaner sponge and press your garment by hand. This method is gentler and helps maintain the garment's shape without flattening it.
